ESCHBORN, Germany: Osstem Implant provides a comprehensive range of products for guided bone regeneration (GBR). Now, after having received European CE marking certification, the xenograft bone regeneration material A-Oss and the alloplastic graft bone regeneration material Q-Oss+ will also become available on the European market.

Human bone-like 3D microporous structures

A-Oss is a bovine-derived xenograft material, which has been officially recognised as being free of bovine spongiform encephalopathy by the World Organisation for Animal Health. By preserving its original bovine cancellous bone structure well, A-Oss builds 3D microporous structures highly similar to human bone, enabling it to achieve its biocompatible and osteoconductive potential. Furthermore, A-Oss builds a uniform microporous structure, which contributes to increasing the level of blood inflow and securing hydrophilicity. The porous structure of A-Oss boosts osteogenic cell activation and constructs stable bone scaffolds for the successful formation of new bone.

Rough surface and bioactivation

A-Oss has a rough surface of heterogeneous bone, which allows the fibrin network to attach to the bone surface quickly and effectively, and thereby helps osteogenic cells to proliferate. It also helps to provide sufficient space for the combination and storage of nutrients and effective factors.

Volume stability and aesthetics

A-Oss can be used in a wide range of clinical cases that involve bone defects. However, A-Oss can be particularly advantageous in an area where sufficient bone volume has to be attained, especially in the aesthetic zone. Having volume stability and maintenance capability, it ensures stable, natural and aesthetic results.

Combination with alloplast and biological optimisation

If the user aims at long-term bone reconstruction, A-Oss can also be used as supplementary material in combination with other bone grafting materials, such as the alloplastic bone grafting material Q-Oss+. Owing to its cost-efficiency and safety, Q-Oss+ can been used to fill large bone deficiencies, for example, in the maxillary sinus area. Having interconnected structures similar to human bone and a high beta-tricalcium phosphate ratio of 80%, Q-Oss+ achieves excellent osteoconduction.
